Guide for the Reception and Integration of Refugees

All people are world citizens by birth. Every human being has the right to go and settle anywhere and live like a human being.

P.R. Sarkar

In recent years the world has seen an unprecedented surge in the numbers of refugees fleeing the ravages of war, political persecution, human rights violations and desperate poverty in search of a better life. Currently more than 26 million refugees are scattered across the globe, making this a critically important humanitarian challenge for many nations.

Recognizing the complexity and urgency of this issue, AMURT Portugal, in collaboration with the Fundao Migration Centre and Ananda Marga Poland, created a guidebook to address the challenges. Drawing on their collective experiences, this guide provides invaluable guidelines for the reception and successful integration of refugees into host communities.

Co-funded by Erasmus Plus through the PAAIR project, the guidebook presents a wealth of best practices and practical tools, including innovative communication models and detailed checklists, all designed to promote equality, inclusion and autonomy for refugees as they rebuild their lives in new surroundings.

What does the Guide Contain?

  • Initial Reception in Emergency Situations: Procedures and guidelines to ensure a quick and effective response in humanitarian crises.
  • Psychological First Aid: Techniques and approaches to offer emotional support to refugees.
  • Support Against Human Trafficking: Strategies to identify and help victims of human trafficking.
  • Challenges and Solution Strategies: Identification of the main obstacles in integration and proposals for practical solutions.
  • Existing Resources for Public Social Support: Information about available services, such as school inclusion and other social support.
